100 times the network capacity and twice the power!
Our recent move gives us over 100 times the network capacity and twice the power we had a few weeks ago. We are very excited and our customers should see a huge difference in performance, especially during peak periods.Over the past eleven months (yes, eleven) we have been trying to figure out what to do about removing our bandwidth and power limitations. Over four years ago, we had moved from a small, horrible colocation facility in Sandy Springs to a new facility between Spring and West Peachtree in Midtown, Atlanta. This new facility was "ultra swank" and was a huge improvement over what we had experienced at the Sandy Springs facility. As time went on, and we added more and larger customers and more equipment to support them, we started to feel the limitations of the service level we had selected and needed to make another series of upgrades.
We first went to our current Colo facility which had recently been purchased by another, larger company. After literally six months of asking them for pricing and getting cryptic, incomplete responses, they finally delivered something approximating a complete, comprehensible quote. Unfortunately, the final delivery was not good. The pricing of network bandwidth (the one thing we really needed) was four to five times above market rates. Moreover, we found that while we were trying to pry this basic information from them, our contract had "automatically" renewed as a convenience to us. We continue to negotiate this situation and continue to be amazed at just how obtuse these folks are.
Fast-forward a few months. We went through a serious round of research and negotiations and ended up choosing Telx as our new colocation provider. The Telx facility is located in downtown Atlanta at 56 Marietta, and gives us easier access to the rivers of network bandwidth that flow into the building. So far, we have been very pleased with the service and the connectivity. Our sites load faster, email works better and newsletters load without delay - Good stuff.
